Task 3D
With reference to the Course Reader on Reflection you should make 10 comments on other people’s blogs, which should focus on raising critical questions or issues (no ‘great’ or ‘I like that LoL’) relating to other peoples’ posts on assignments 3a; 3b and 3c (3 of these should be on blogs or other media from practitioners not on the programme)
The people on the course I chose:
Phil Carroll
Sarah Pearson
Corinda Hall
Katharina Schell
Tiffany Newson
Mary Bance
Alice Chambers
Jacob Hughes
Alicia Beck
Sina-Jayne Leigh
Phil- I find Phil’s blog very constructed and detailed. But I sense fear of being more open and honest. He speaks so strongly about the tasks, the readers and his life. It’s like the Aortic Valve is missing and I know that the heart can’t survive without it. Maybe you can find the missing piece? (Not being nasty of sarcastic).
Sarah- Sarah is a person whose work is very understandable, reflective, and to the point. It never lacks (not that everyone else’s lacks), it’s different to the blogs my colleagues wrote from the last 2 years. Maybe it’s her experience, age or what she does for a living that gives her the oomph in her blog.
Corinda- Corinda’s blog is specific and very well constructed. I find it useful to read her’s often as she gives good advice and she has brilliant perspectives on things that make you think differently about what you are writing, who you are talking about etc.
Katharina- Katharina’s blog explains her practice in a way that is interesting to read. She doesn’t blab on about things, she talks to the point. Which I find is important for someone who is reading your blog. Her opinions on reader three are very impressive and we fit on either side of the argument. She agrees with it and I don’t. She said on my blog “Hello Lily, can I ask why you are disagreeing with the theories of Affiliation and Constructionism? I would like to know more about your thoughts about this issue because I do think that we are learning by experience and that we (are) (interjected by me) constructing our knowledge by doing. Do you think different?”
Tiffany- Like Phil, I think Tiffany needs to open up her thoughts more. Her blog is a fascinating one to read. I just would like to know more of her strong opinions on the readers, the theorists and things mentioned in the reader. I don’t know why Tiffany, why don’t you share your opinions that often? Is it work or is there fear? (I don’t mean to offend or I’m not being sarcastic or nasty.)
Mary- I found that Mary uses another practioner(s) other than those mentioned on the programme. It’s called ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing). Mary receives a magazine called “Dance” from them and on her blog she has stated “As a member of the ISTD, I receive a monthly magazine called “Dance”. This is a great source of information relating to my profession; it provides me with updates to the dance I teach as well as current goings on and news.”
Alice- Alice reads the Daily Telegraph a lot and on her blog, I have seen links to some interesting articles loosely related to the programme. Through reading her thoughts it’s taught me that I should look further afield outside the box.
Jacob- Jacob meets practioners through chance meetings. He mentioned on his blog that he met Wayne Sleep (ex principal dancer of The Royal Ballet) who encouraged Jacob to take Ballet Lessons in London for he will be seen by potential employers. Jacob tends to make his network by meeting people or reading about them. He has read about a ballet dancer Darcey Bussell (whom he admires and who is at the top of the dancing tree) (Jacob’s words). He takes the advice of those he meets and reads about and uses it in his practice.
Alicia- Alicia’s blog is very well written and interesting to look at, as it contains a lot of info about her practice which I never knew as a director. Her views on reader one is different to the average student’s opinion. When she talks about the game “Prisoner’s Dilemma” in task 3D she has similar views like mine and that’s what catches my eye and also her honesty.
Sina-Jayne- Sina-Jayne’s blog is very thorough and clear. I find however that she seems a bit lost on her dance journey. She says in her Inquiry tasks that “At the moment I have the pressure of a show coming up which I need to choreograph four dances for...I have only ever choreographed one full dance before! I find it easier when there is a style to the dance or a theme - but I don't want a certain style sometimes, I just want a plain old jazz or tap dance. I do not understand how this can happen - I have had extensive training, been in numerous shows and yet when I am trying to choreograph nothing comes to me.”
I replied to her and said “Sina-Jayne, I think you might be stressing over it too much. When I have a writer’s or director’s block, I leave things for an hour or two, I relax (take a bubble bath or a walk in the local park for example) and after relaxing I find that I come up with ideas instantly or if I don’t it comes to me within the hour. Maybe you can try this technique to help you?”
